  1. Registration

After successfully installing Voptop and starting the program for the first time, a window opens informing you, that there are no settings, yet. It also asks you, whether you want to register a new account. The registration process starts by confirming this request.

After entering log-in and password the new account is registered on the Voptop server. Voptop generates a new key to securely communicate with the Voptop server. Furthermore, by selecting “Autologin”, the client will be notified, that it should log-in automatically after every start of Voptop.

After completing the registration process, the Voptop client automatically connects to the Voptop network. The newly generated keys can be found under “RSA keys”.

  1. Main Application

The Voptop main window displays all available contacts and their current status (“Online”, “Away”, “Offline”). By double-clicking a contact a telephone connection is made to the contact.

Right-click on a contact opens a context menu. The context menu gives access to all the possible means of interaction with a contact.

“Call <contact name>” establishes a telephone connection to the selected contact.

“Send IM to <contact name>” opens an “Instant messaging” window to “chat” with a contact.

With the help of the “Telephone Icon” a telephone connection to the currently selected contact can be established.

The “Contact search Icon“ opens the dialog to find contacts within the Voptop network.

The “Edit contact Icon” opens the dialog to edit a contact.

Use the “Delete contact Icon” to delete contacts. The contacts and their “People Files” will be deleted.

The “Settings Icon” opens the settings dialog of Voptop.

  1. Deskbar

With the help of the Voptop “Deskbar Icon” the current account status can be changed to “Online”, “Away” or “Offline”. Changing the status to “Offline” signs the client out of the Voptop network. “Online” and “Away” sign the account into the Voptop network, if it has not been previously signed in.

In addition, over the “Deskbar Icon” the Voptop settings can be reached or changed and Voptop can be terminated.

  1. Find Contacts

The “Contact search dialog” can be accessed via the “Search Icon” . Enter the name of the desired contact into the input filed of the search dialog. It is enough if only part of the name is entered. All contacts that match the search are shown in the hit list below the input field.

Add the contact to your list of contacts by double-clicking on the search results (a confirmation message pops up).

  1. Settings

The Voptop settings can be accessed via the Voptop “Deskbar Icon”, or via the “Settings Icon” in the Voptop client. Within the settings tab, there are four tabs “Server”, “Login”, “General” and “RSA keys”.

Server

In the tab “Server” it can be configured which server the Voptop client should connect to and which port should be used for it. Furthermore, it can be configured on which port incoming connections are handled. The default “server port” is 48616 and the default “client port” is 48617. When the client connects with the Voptop server through a “router”, the “client port” on the “router” has to be forwarded to the appropriate computer (port forwarding).

In the tab “login” the account information, with which you log into the Voptp network, is entered or changed. Checking “Autologin” ensures that the Voptop client logs into the Voptop network automatically after starting the client.

General

In the tab “General” general settings of the Voptop client can be configured. The slider “Sound volume” adjusts the volume of the respective opposite side of a telephone conversation. The volume of one’s own microphone can be adjusted with the slider “Microphone volume”.

The slider “Peer amount between caller” regulates the number of Voptop peers a phone call or message is channeled through.

RSA keys

In the tab “RSA keys”, the current keys for secure communication with the Voptop server are displayed. By clicking the button “Generate”, a new pair of keys can be generated.
